Every so often, a poem captures the emotion of pre-tenure life perfectly.

Every so often, a poem captures an emotion perfectly.

I felt this way when I finished my Ph.D., when I was untenured & had a new baby, when I changed jobs, and even now, on the first day of class or the first submission of a paper.

Fear of change, fear of rejection, fear of not being good enough, shape the lives of many academics.

It's not whether we feel fear; it's how we navigate the emotion that is important.

Don't let that fear drive your career, manage it, control it, take risks, and you will find your way.
