On admitting your student knows better.

When he started his dissertation, Jim Burleson had to convince me that people really did use Facebook & Whatsapp to support communicating with their clients and co-workers.

I was like, no, no way. Who would use Facebook IM for work?

These days, I use it to communicate with co-authors on three continents.

Every so often, you have to admit the young folks know things.

Jim's work explains the thought process behind taking a software application designed for personal use and applying it in the workplace.

Like me, it took a while for a journal editor to bite - but when one did - Jim nailed it.

His work, "A Representation Theory Perspective on the Repurposing of Personal Technologies for Work-Related Tasks", appears in the Journal of Association for Information Systems.

Jim's work was advised Varun Grover and Heshan Sun with a bit of help from me.

I could not be prouder of Jim for sticking to his guns and seeing the project through to publication.
