On mourning academic losses.

A friend asked if I still get upset when a paper is rejected.

Yes.

I feel emotion because I care about …

The time invested in the paper

 My papers message

If you work with people that you care about, invest in the work, and believe your academic work has value, then you should be upset.

However.

That does not mean you carry the sadness and anger with you.

It means you let yourself feel frustration, anger and sadness.

Then you let it go.

However.

That does not mean you ignore the feedback.

It means once your emotions settle that you acknowledge your paper needs work.

And.

That does not mean you give up.

It means that you take Reviewer Two’s feedback and improve the paper in front of you and the next paper.

Never forget it’s ok to feel emotions when your work is rejected.

It’s what you do next that matters.

And.

Perseverance conquers!
