Today, I was formally invested as a Technical University of Munich Ambassador. This investiture made me a member of the TUM family and an official alumnus of the university.
My partner and daughter were there for the ceremony in front of 1800 people. It was woven into a concert by a world-class pianist & symphony.
My class of ambassadors included ten scientists - who, like me - waited for years for COVID to pass - to be formally invested as members of the TUM community & receive the golden pin.
With just three or four new ambassadors in a typical year, I joined a small community of people that love TUM, and it’s scientific mission of changing the world for the better.
Being a TUM ambassador means more to me, than any recognition extended by my professional association, my university, and my department - because it recognized my work with Ph.D. students.
The TUM president’s commendation specifically mentioned my work with TUM Ph.D. students - which made my heart swell three sizes - working with early career scholars is my vocation.
While nominated by the Ph.D. students of Helmut Krcmar, I feel like they have given me far more than I have ever shared with them - they’ve opened my eyes to thinking about impact & research, reframed how I see digitization & AI, and made me a better scholar. I am humbled that they supported my nomination.
Many thanks to TUM for the honor. I look forward to extending our friendship in the years to come.
